Atmel layoffs extend job woes in Springs (Colorado Springs Gazette)

California-based Atmel laid off 266 employees from its Colorado Springs semiconductor plant Tuesday, its second round of layoffs in five months that has eliminated more than 500 jobs amid a worse-than-expected sales decline.

Bloomberg Proposes Layoffs, Cuts (FOX 5 New York)

Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s final budget plan for the next fiscal year will include layoffs, more cuts to city spending and a sales tax hike. Administration officials said the plan the mayor will present Friday cuts 3,750 jobs, but teachers and uniformed services will be spared.
