DOL announces more than $1.6 million to continue to assist Illinois workers impacted by statewide layoffs [06/30/2009] (U.S. Department of Labor)

The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $1,624,000 National Emergency Grant increment to continue to assist Illinois workers impacted by layoffs and plant closures at 31 companies across the state.

Some Broward teachers to be offered jobs this week (Miami Herald)

Some of the 394 Broward teachers let go one week ago will find out this week that their layoff was short-lived. By Thursday, the school district plans to offer jobs to between 50 and 60 teachers, according to the Broward Teachers Union. It was not clear Tuesday what positions those teachers would be offered.

Springfield Finance Control Board approves fiscal 2010 buget, avoids further layoffs (The Republican)

SPRINGFIELD - The Finance Control Board Tuesday approved a new $528.6 million budget that prevents further layoffs and maintains basic services. The vote occurred on the final day of the Control Board overseeing the city. It is set to dissolve at midnight.

No massive layoffs at Uralvagonzavod – Governor Rossel (Itar-Tass)

YEKATERINBURG, June 30 (Itar-Tass) — No massive layoffs are due at the Uralvagonzavod heavy industry corporation in Nizhni Tagil, the Sverdlovsk Region’s governor, Eduard Rossel, told the media on Tuesday.
