LA Times Hit By Layoffs As Profits Plunge 41% at Tribune (Updated)

The Los Angeles Times has cut more employees in what the paper termed a “modest round of staff reductions” on Friday, just as the parent Tribune company announced a quarterly earnings report with profit down by a staggering 41 percent.

OROVILLE — The City Council approved layoffs and cuts to 23 city jobs in a budget session last week, but the final layoff plan won’t be approved until Monday and again with the final budget next Tuesday.

Manufacturing losses continue to hurt Decatur-area employment

DECATUR — The effects of manufacturing layoffs continued to affect the Decatur-area unemployment rate last month as it increased to 10.3 percent, compared with 9.7 percent in May 2012.
