Showboat closes after 27 years in Atlantic City

The party is over at the Showboat, the Mardi Gras-themed casino that shut down on Sunday after 27 years, dealing a tough hand to nearly 2,000 workers who awaken this Labor Day without jobs. The end for the still-profitable casino came with little fanfare shortly before 4 p.m., when security rousted the few remaining gamblers from the tables and slot machines and escorted them to the door.
