Quiet shuffling of city jobs meant to avoid layoffs (The Bakersfield Californian)
An undisclosed number of city employees have been encouraged to apply for job transfers in order to avoid possible layoffs. Bakersfield officials, faced with an estimated $8.7 million budget gap when the new fiscal year starts in July, say they’re trying to hold on to as many staffers as possible through the shuffling.
