State layoffs, furloughs likely coming today (Detroit Free Press)

LANSING — Layoffs, employee furloughs and less money for cities are expected this morning when Gov. Jennifer Granholm orders $300 million cut from a state budget that has bled more than $1 billion in red ink. Cuts in Medicaid payments to doctors and hospitals and layoffs of State Police troopers are expected, too.
