Supervisors OK layoffs, move up budget hearings (The Bakersfield Californian)
Kern County supervisors will leap into budget hearings Thursday, a full month before they were scheduled to debate and approve their worst financial plan in decades — and without a printed budget to work from. The move was triggered by frustration that bubbled up as supervisors fielded two requests from District Attorney Ed Jagels to authorize 26 layoffs in his offices.
